The core work of the Confidential Inquiry examines suicide and homicide committed by people who have been in contact with secondary and specialist mental health services in the twelve months before the incident.
Summary: People convicted of homicide, murder, manslaughter or infanticide in England and Wales are notified to the Inquiry by the Home Office and a questionnaire is sent to the responsible clinician. The Inquiry collects detailed information on the activities of clinical services prior to suicide and homicide and on the pattern of events leading to these incidents.
